WAKE UP: SILENCE IS BETRAYAL

 

I think we would all agree that music has the power to inspire, enrage and promote action, however, it's rare when one song/performance manages to do all three.


For those who have followed SOULD since day one, it's no surprise that we have taken great inspiration from the band, Rage Against the Machine.  Their unyielding principles, intelligent dissent and incredible musical talent, were the elements that created arguably the most socially influential bands ever.  

Many have expressed great disappointment that such a socially motivating force, has been so noticeably quiet over the past 8 tumultuous years and we are definitely one of them.  However, while new material has been scarce, a testament to their legend is that virtually all of their material is still as relevant today, as it was the day it was released.

The attached speech, made by Zach de la Rocha, in the middle of Rage's live performance of "Wake Up" in 1993, is one that will always be relevant, but it especially strikes a  chord today, about a month before one of the most pivotal presidential elections in US and world history. 

We hope you find it as inspiring as we have over all these years and if you do, we urge you to spread the word and most importantly, make your voice heard.

Ambassador Sample Sale in L.A.:
Les and I spent last weekend in L.A. at the Ambassador Sample Sale, put on by Daniel and the crew from Spoiled Paradise...props guys! Had a chance to chill with some of the best crews in the game: Crooks, Hellz, Obey, Listen, Soul Assassins, Lore, NineGrand, Spoiled Paradise, Sneaktip, to name a few... everyone represented very well, plus, we sold to some lucky patrons who got everything at a ridiculously low price... the customers were the real winners at this event! Also, the music was great... from the DJ's (Renzo from Listen was ill!) to the performances: Mann (Def Jam), Nipsey Hussle and the Slauson Boys, Peas & Carrots, Diz, Esso, etc... let's do it again! peace. We're a little late, but the SOULD Blog is finally live... and Hypebeast is shaking in its boots... hahaha.

In all seriousness though, we have added this feature to our site, because not only do we want to keep you up to date on what's up with SOULD, our stores, our crew and the f'd up world around us, but most importantly, we want to hear from you.
